There is a huge difference between a westerner who practices vipassana meditation, reads a few books on Buddhism and someone in the east who is into prayer wheels, merit making and sundry superstitions. To be fair, what is called Christianity varies widely too. You have family planning clinic bombing revisionist museum patrons on the one hand and on the other you have the American east coast quakers doing breathing meditation in their meetings.
In reading the scriptures, there are two kinds of mistakes:
One mistake is to cling to the literal text and miss the inner principles.
The second mistake is to recognize the principles but not apply them to your own mind, so that you waste time and just make them into causes of entanglement.
