A good Dhamma talk given by Steve Armstrong and Hla Myint on the the Progress of Insight.

I am looking forward to purchasing their transalation of Venerable Mahasi Sayadaw's "Manual of Insight" when it gets published.

Some teachers would discourage students from reading about the Nanas on their own... It can create inhibiting expectations and self-diagnoses...

Hi Viscid, aren't these just more objects to be mindful of?
Thanks for the link Matheesha.

I fail to see how such a closed-hand habit would be in keeping with the open-hand Dhamma. Maybe if the Nanas are somehow an extra spice on the Dhamma, it makes sense to watch out who learns about them and when?

Well it's kind of hard to avoid information on the Progress of Insight today, it's on many forums and websites. I'm pretty sure I came across it when I first learned Vipassana and did a search on Venerable Mahasi Sayadaw. There's a link to the Progress of Insight on his Wikipedia page.
If this information is supposed to be for teachers only then they've done a poor job of keeping it from beginning students.

I agree.
