The project
The objective of the Tasman Island Restoration Project is the removal of every cat and the restoration of the island’s ecosystem allowing native species to breed without the predation presence of an introduced carnivore.
Eradication of cats would help to protect at least three species of burrowing seabirds, potentially help restore the little penguin population which has been wiped out and protect the island’s reptiles, especially endemic species.

Re: Cat food
A lot of talk about my cats, your cats his/her cats ..... and talk about being responsible for the behavior of this cat or that cat......does this apply to my offspring, your offspring....etc? Maybe we should not let our children go outside because they may join the army and go kill people?
Who owns a cat?....do you think the Buddha thought that we can own sentient beings....or anything else for that matter?

Probably not, other than one needs to teach one's children well. Cats are not human beings.chownah wrote:A lot of talk about my cats, your cats his/her cats ..... and talk about being responsible for the behavior of this cat or that cat......does this apply to my offspring, your offspring....etc?

Who is the candidate for stream entry - you or your kitten?octobersun79 wrote:I'm sure this has been discussed many times previously, but I'm not sure of the karmic consequences of purchasing cat food. I have looked into my kitten eating veggie and tried her with all different types of alternitives. She's not having any of it.. on the plus side she will only eat a brand of cat-food that has 4% meat derivatives.
I could only feed her veggie food but could this spur her on to go hunting outside.
Re: Cat food
OP:Cats are carnivores; they need some meat. They are also natural predators and will cause havoc if left to roam.
There are no Kammic consequences to purchasing cat food, although you may go to stupid hell for trying to turn your cat veggie.

Stupid Hell is probably the most populated hell realm, followed by the Good Intentions Realm.

Alot of people like to read their own views into the Dhamma so that they can smuggly think that they know it all.............can you provide a scriptural reference that supports this statement?tiltbillings wrote: Cats are not human beings.

Cats are human beings? Are you going to argue that they are? Re: Cat food
kamma is driven by intention.
Your intention in buying meat for your cat is not based in greed/lust ( buying something you don't need for the sake of pleasing yourself ). You intention is to feed a beloved pet whose species has evolved digestive anatomy to be carnivorous and who does not have the mental capacity for a dialogue about choosing an alternative food.

In reading the scriptures, there are two kinds of mistakes:
One mistake is to cling to the literal text and miss the inner principles.
The second mistake is to recognize the principles but not apply them to your own mind, so that you waste time and just make them into causes of entanglement.
