Buddha's mind or soul???

Postby unspoken » Wed Oct 26, 2011 5:22 pm

After I read about the post on 3 bodies of Buddha I got a thought arise in my mind.

When the Buddha meditating in midnight, he some how appear in other realm such as the heavenly realm to teach deva and deities Dhammas.

Then in what form of the Buddha actually leave the physical form and appear in another realm to teach Dhamma?

Or maybe it's the jhanic ability one gain from that actually can make you appear in other places like 'Manomayiddhi' from the 8 skills gained after attaining higher jhana.

So if it is like that, then the bodies of buddha that is actually pure and have a bodily form maybe can be explained by that skill attained from higher Jhanna by the Buddha?

Hi Unspoken,

The Planes of Existence and Jhanic attainments are certainly intimately tied together in Buddhist Cosmology:
The Thirty-one Planes of Existence

Are they "places" or "states of mind"? Interesting question...

You might, in particular, look at:
MN 49 Brahma-nimantanika Sutta: The Brahma Invitation

Ajahn Brahm has a couple of interesting talks about this sutta. One is here:
The Invitation Of A Brahma

Edit: now here: http://www.dhammaloka.org.au/downloads/ ... rahma.html
I have not listened to this for a while, but as I recall he discusses how Mara is the "control freak" part of our mind.
