I'm starting to have the lottery feeling about how oneself can come to earn any right view in the first place.

Thank you everyone for contributing to the discussion.

The lottery is over: you have drawn a life during a dispensation of Dhamma, well-taught by the Buddha and carried to us by the Sangha. You have cognized the Nikayas. Now it's time to cultivate appropriate attention; this, surely, is a reasonable goal?

Right view isn't earned, it is developed.
"And how is it, bhikkhus, that by protecting oneself one protects others? By the pursuit, development, and cultivation of the four establishments of mindfulness. It is in such a way that by protecting oneself one protects others.

"And how is it, bhikkhus, that by protecting others one protects oneself? By patience, harmlessness, goodwill, and sympathy. It is in such a way that by protecting others one protects oneself.
