In terms of daily practice, I'm not sure it's important to focus on any particular notion of
rebirth at all. It seems to me that
rebirth is part of a broader right understanding that forms a foundation for practice, and that likewise grows out of diligent practice, but I'm not sure how far we get by trying to make some concept of "
rebirth" fit into a daily practice regimen.
Personally, I find the notion of literal, post-mortem
rebirth to be obvious and natural. I have no problem accepting it. But if I'm honest with myself, I have to acknowledge that I'm open to the idea that I might be wrong. I know that I don't fully know. I realize that my notions of
rebirth are not fully developed, and that they are subject to change. I realize that in the future, there probably will come a time when I have a greater, deeper understanding of
rebirth than I do at this moment. So I try to hang loose about it and not worry too much.
I'm like you in that when it comes to the details, I just don't care that much. I hope that the next lifetime will be an opportunity to provide some benefit to others. But right here and now, the best I can do is make the most of this very life, for the benefit of all.
