Women: more gifted for spiritual life?

Postby Sacha G » Thu Jan 20, 2011 11:23 am

Hi
I wonder whether women might be more gifted than men for spiritual life.
I seen 3 reasons why this would be the case:
1°) They seem more attracted to anything spiritual
2°) They seem to know their inner life and their emotions better
3°) They seem to have less sexual desire (which is not a small obstacle)

Now, it's true that they seem to have stronger emotions, or to put it another way, strong kleshas. It's also a fact that they tend to suffer of depression twice as men.

What do you think?

Most of these can be explained more in cultural terms than gender terms.

Meet my sister.....and you'll find out... :jumping:
Bhikkhus, if you develop and make much this one thing,
it invariably leads to weariness, cessation, appeasement, realization and extinction.
What is it? It is recollecting the Enlightened One.
If this single thing is recollected and made much,
it invariably leads to weariness, cessation, appeasement, realization and extinction.

I think this is something better to not form opinions about, as it tends towards discord. Please read some of the things present day Bhikkunis have said about this matter, it can be quite hurtful to even indirectly suggest which sex might be better suited, more gifted, superior, etc.

Women have more depression, but men have more addiction. Both women and men have both addictions and depression. Any differences we can find (through statistics, not assumptions) are only ones of averages. There is far more overlap than difference. I did see one study that showed that women tend to pray in more of a deep meditative way than men, again on average. But there are plenty of men who meditate their butts off and plenty of women with no interest in it.

It interesting to ask the question, but I guess there's just an inherent danger in trying to reach conclusions by generalizing across broad categories such as men and women (and not to mention sexual orientation, transgender, intergender, intersex, etc.)

And evidence for such an extraordinary claim please?

Alright, alright, I want to speak my mind and let y'all know what the deal is here,
I think as a guy, you end up taking alot of B.S. from alot of people. Like when I was a schoolboy back in India, the teachers would beat you up for not doing the homework but they would leave girls alone because they cry when you start yelling. In america, the nerdy girls weren't beaten up as often as the nerdy boys back in junior high. Even now, naturally the male boss is more friendlier towards women inferiors, while female bosses are actually biased against you at times. Sometimes women don't trust you, you might be the nicest guy there is on the planet , yet the females are such that they won't trust you. The girls are generally more sheltered, especially indian girls who only care about spending their daddy's money and living a good life while you are struggling your ass off putting yourself through school, working 12+ hours a day, taking loan after loan struggling to make something of yourself- AND whats worse? when you actually do take the girl out (who spends her daddy's money) , she wants to spend yours! hahaha, sheesh, she won't even pay for your fricking gas, or soda or anything, you have to spend your hard earned money to take her out while she holds on to her daddy's money. Some young women get treated like royalty, Yes, i am jealous of women lol.

clw_uk,

Not everything must be inside the context. As we open up our mind and see things, there's much answer than inside the sutta. If were to record what the Buddha said, in books. It would filled up the whole library. The Tripitaka is just 47volumes. I am saying that Tripitaka describe in things which is more to the doctrine of the Buddha, guides you on the journey. Others like the kammic effect and so, is not all compound inside the suttas.

Female born in a more clam manner, sometimes do, they have some emotional lost balance, but it doesn't meant that they are not better than male. In the way of karma, female would be the mother, carrying the fetus for 10months, raise the child up. Don't you think the good karma that they cumulate would be much easier to born as a male? Female's effort and sacrifices is so great that they made Westlife sing "You Raise Me Up"
