The forum sub banner reads

"A Buddhist discussion forum on the Dhamma of the Theravada..."

Is any of this ambiguous and difficult to understand ?

You mean, the unvoiced subtext: We a bunch of Hinayana gits needing proper salvation.?

Let me state that Mahayanist are welcome here. I value the input of our learned Grand Vehicle friends. What is the problem is the sectarian pushiness that we here sometimes see from well-meaning but misguided folks who think we Theravadins might need a little coxing done the "right" path.

 I was rather hoping that it meant " discussion is invited concerning the Dhamma of the Theravada there being after all lots of other forums for the discussion of other schools "
But then I am a simple minded Theravadin slumped in my Hinayana gloom.

We can understand the Theravada without the Mahayana.

If a Mahayanist or a non-Buddhist is here to discuss and participate in what is going on here without telling us or implying in some way or other that we have it wrong, they are quite welcome as far as I am concerned. We get enough intramural squabbling without importing any.

It become an interesting question of how do we discuss the Mahayana here.

If you are serious and not merely :stirthepot: then I assure you that the Theravada needs no interpretation by the Mahayana.
The evidence is though that something about the Theravada keeps on drawing Mahayanists back.

I see that. And I agree.

:hello: Peter,
I'm rarely totally serious but rarely totally unserious. That post was on the flippant side  but I do think we should all be able to learn from everyone - even if it's just to sharpen our brains by working out where the truth lies when we disagree. Doctrines which cannot stand up to criticism are not worth adhering to, IMHO.

On the other hand, trolls are trolls whatever they want to waste our time on, and may be politely but firmly discouraged. And I agree that the main business of this forum is what it says on the shopfront: the Theravada.
