Abhidhamma View : Fully-Purified Vision Is Dhamma Eye

Post by yawares »

Dear Members,

:candle: Abhidhamma View : Fully-Purified Vision Is Dhamma Eye :candle:
[Presented by Dr.Tep Sastri and Pali text by Dr.Han Tun @ SD/JTN]

The following important sutta is about four ways to develop ~naa.nadassana, i.e., the "knowing & seeing", perfect knowledge, or realization of the truth as we have read about in so many suttas.
-----------
A certain monk visited another monk and said: "Tell me, friend, how does a monk's vision become fully purified?"

1. "Friend, when a monk fully comprehends as they really are the arising and
passing away of the six spheres of contact, to that extent his vision becomes
fully purified."
1. "Yato kho, aavuso, bhikkhu channa.m phassaayatanaana.m samudaya~nca
attha"ngama~nca yathaabhuuta.m pajaanaati, ettaavataa kho, aavuso, bhikkhuno
dassana.m suvisuddha.m hotii"ti.

2. "Friend, when a monk fully comprehends as they really are the arising and
passing away of the five groups of clinging, to that extent his vision becomes
fully purified."
2. "Yato kho, aavuso, bhikkhu pa~ncanna.m upaadaanakkhandhaana.m samudaya~nca
attha"ngama~nca yathaabhuuta.m pajaanaati, ettaavataa kho, aavuso, bhikkhuno
dassana.m suvisuddha.m hotii"ti.

3. "Friend, when a monk fully comprehends as they really are the arising and
passing away of the four great elements, to that extent his vision becomes fully
purified."
3. "Yato kho, aavuso, bhikkhu catunna.m mahaabhuutaana.m samudaya~nca
attha"ngama~nca yathaabhuuta.m pajaanaati, ettaavataa kho, aavuso, bhikkhuno
dassana.m suvisuddha.m hotii"ti.

4. "Friend, when a monk fully comprehends as it really is that whatever is of a
nature to arise is bound to pass away, to that extent his vision becomes fully
purified."
4. "Yato kho, aavuso, bhikkhu ya.m ki~nci samudayadhamma.m , sabba.m ta.m
nirodhadhammanti yathaabhuuta.m pajaanaati, ettaavataa, kho, aavuso, bhikkhuno
dassana.m suvisuddha.m hotii"ti.

-----------
The Buddha approved the above four insights as "fully-purified vision".

Note that the 4th answer actually describes the 'Dhamma Eye'. [ Ya"nkiñci samudaya-dhamma.m sabban-ta.m nirodha-dhamman'ti. Mv 1.23.1-10.] http://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka ... .than.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thus an important conclusion is: the Ki.msukaa Sutta essentially states that the 'Dhamma Eye' can be achieved by four different insights (that fully comprehend the realities).
