Exploring the texts and the words in their Pali version is a completely different experience compared to merely reading an english translation, because one is enabled to make the link between the different contexts in which a particular word appears, which gives it a much deeper meaning that no conventional translation will ever be able to convey.
The advantages of this new formula are that
1° you get translations of the suttas of unprecedented precision
2° you learn Pali by yourself when you want to, in a meaningful context
3° you choose the content of what you learn
4° you choose the depth to which you want to dig the meaning of a term, an expression or a sutta.
This depth will increase as the website develops.
You can start on the two newly published pages (don't miss the bubbles and the glossary!):
Pali formula for Indriya Saṃvara:
http://www.suttapitaka.net/formulae/samvara.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
First sutta with this new concept:
http://www.suttapitaka.net/sutta/angutt ... 5-241.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
They are s far the only pages of that precise kind on the website, but they will very soon be followed by many

Re: Advantages of this new formula
The definition pop up for pali words with numerous possible context is very convenient. You can see the various contexts and definition for that word and grasp its meanings more thoroughly than if you just read a translation with the context already selected. Sometimes the selected term might not be the best rendering. Here the readers can see the various possible renderings for that term for themselves.
The rest of the terms are obvious, because there is only one possible meaning for it, so just showing the English translation of it is okay. Hardly anyone will dispute that because it is not as controversial when a term has only one possible definition.
By the way, is it possible to add a template to spice things up a little ?

Hello morning mist, I am not able to see precisely what you want to say. Could you specify what you mean by 'adding a template'? Thanksmorning mist wrote:By the way, is it possible to add a template to spice things up a little ?

Re: Advantages of this new formula
Another advantage is that very soon you will be able to read some suttas directly in Pali without translation. Mere bubbles on some words will suffice. Such short suttas from the anguttara or the samyutta nikaya, specially those who are just definitions of words.
@morning mist: actually I prefer keeping this very minimalist design in the style of ATI with green connotations. I find it more in tune with the spirit of the Buddha's teaching.
