To call something a foundation of the Buddhist Teachings is only correct if firstly, it is a principle which aims at the extinction of Dukkha and, secondly, it has a logic that one can see for oneself without having to believe others. These are the important constituents of a foundation.

Ajahn Pasanno is an excellent teacher. He studied under Ajahn Chah and Buddhadassa Bhikkhu. A monk at the local Wat i attend gave me a burned cd of his talks on the Anapanasati sutta. It is an excellent commentary and overview on how to practice it. You can find it here:

The real Buddhism is not books, not manuals, not word for word repetition from the Tipitaka, nor is it rites and rituals. These are not the real Buddhism. The real Buddhism is the practice, by way of body, speech and mind that will destroy the defilements, in part or completely...Though a person may never have seen or even heard of the Tipitaka, if he carries out detailed investigation every time suffering arises and scorches his mind he can be said to be studying the Tipitaka directly, and far more correctly than people actually in the process of reading it. - Buddhadasa Bhikkhu

This moved me greatly. I am always interested in hearing about the Dhamma being practiced in prison, and this was a wonderful story. May Jay receive blessings and achieve the ultimate happiness.

There is also a book that came out recently called Razor Wire Dharma.

I practice Korean Zen (Son) and have a deep interest in the Nikayas. Hope to learn more here and share bits and pieces where appropriate.
