He says, "all short vowels are prosodically long that come before a conjunct or double consonant." So if I understand correctly, then bhīkkhu and bhikkhu would be pronounced exactly the same? Then for raṭṭha, would it be pronounced rāṭṭha, or still with the 'a' sound, only vocalized for longer?
Also, he says that 'o' and 'e' are always long, whereas other sources state that they are short before a double consonant ... ? If they are short, just how are they pronounced? The IPA symbol would be helpful =)
