On extinguishing papanca
I'm often asked why don'tcha?
I tend to ruminate
And then complicate
But sati ends proliferation!

There was a young man of Bombay
Who heard an old Bhikkhu once say
You need peace of mind
If the answers you'd find
So he started to Sit the same day.

I rather like aberrant anti-limericks as well,
as in
A young poet who came from Japan
Wrote verses that never would scan
When asked for the reason
he said " in this season
I always like to make the last line as long as I possibly can ". ( Ogden Nash I think )
So on that note.

A young monk who lived in Nepal
never could stick to the rule
He took lunch at night
got into a fight
and ended up going back to the States
and getting a job as a croupier in Caesars Palace in Vegas.
That mischeivous monk from Nepal.

Not that any would really do that.....

Thanks for your efforts Peter but you're meant to also nominate the next word pali word for the limerick challenge.

Sorry folks.I have just read back and seen Chris's " word" rule. so to make amends,

There was a young seeker from Bali
Who never could manage anjali
He'd start off to bow
then make quite a row
He should have just said it in Pali.

Hi PeterB,

Your limericks are outstanding! I especially like the anti-limericks.

The rules are "soft" in this thread, so feel free to have fun. Including the actual Pali word in the limerick is just for extra challenge. If you don't do it, no biggie.

But one rule is hard-and-fast: You have to suggest the next Pali word for the next challenge. If you have a word you'd like to see someone take a swing at, offer it up. Meanwhile, I'll suggest this one:

Tadi

tadi [taadi]: "Such," an adjective to describe one who has attained the goal. It indicates that the person's state is indefinable but not subject to change or influences of any sort.

:hello:

(I had been working on this one, fwiw)

Manasikāra

There once was a man, Che Guevara,
who had very strong manasikara.
His attention was drawn
not to self, but beyond.
Now his face is on shirts near and far-a.

(I know, it's awful.)

Any takers on Tadi? Or another challenge?

Another saturday night and I'm writing a limerick
I got the pali and I just got it made
oh how I wish I had some kind of ending
or even part before then...

Tadi

such and such and such and such
and thus and thus and thus and thus
shaking off the dust
no point in telling us
feeling no pain tadi and such

Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh! Nathan!!!!!!

Now I can't get the lyrics and tune out of my head!

{Refrain} Another Saturday night and I ain't got nobody I've got some money 'cause I just got paid Now, how I wish I had someone to talk to I'm in an awful way
I got in town a month ago I seen a lot of girls since then If I could meet 'em I could get 'em But as yet I haven't met 'em That's how I'm in the state I'm in
Oh, {Refrain} Another Saturday night and I ain't got nobody I've got some money 'cause I just got paid Now, how I wish I had someone to talk to I'm in an awful way
Another fella told me He had a sister who looked just fine Instead of bein' my deliv'rance She had a strange resemblance To a cat named Frankenstein Ooh, la,
{Refrain} Another Saturday night and I ain't got nobody I've got some money 'cause I just got paid Now, how I wish I had someone to talk to I'm in an awful way
It's hard on a fella When he don't know his way around If I don't find me a honey To help me spend my money I'm gonna have to blow this town Oh, no,
{Refrain twice} Another Saturday night and I ain't got nobody I've got some money 'cause I just got paid Now, how I wish I had someone to talk to I'm in an awful way
Another Saturday night and I ain't got nobody I've got some money 'cause I just got paid Now, how I wish I had someone to talk to I'm in an awful way

And here's Cat Stevens singing it:

Nathan posted a Limerick
Something in it seemed to just click
Must be from a past life???
Maybe I was Cat's wife????
Thinking of Vipaka, makes me sick!

issa [m.] a bear. || issā (f.), jealousy; ill-will; envy.

envy a ravenous bear
waving its claws in the air
flailing and failing
craving and crawling
vanity isn't so fair

Wow, that's a tough challenge. Here goes:

Rūpa-kalāpa

A scientist stuck in Willapa
declared: "Everything's rūpa-kalāpa!"
He rejected the mind,
all religions maligned.
And he never got out of Willapa.

How about: Viriya

viriya [viriya]: Persistence; energy.

Sa'id living in Syria
Certainly had no viriya,
calls to make, eat some cake,.
games to play, bills to pay,
But sit to practise? ...Sloth rules the day!

Chanda

Elizabeth had Dhamma-chanda
and she practiced out on her veranda.
Even when the snow fell,
she sat straight, she sat well,
with devotion as rare as a panda.

Really I don't know English so good but it's such a funny thread i couldn't withstand from trying:

sanyojana

There was a not so young puthujjana
He was tied all around with sanyojana.
Then he thought: where's escape?
I can nO longer wait
I must turn my steps to nibbana!
