I've been trying to announce different activities we have going on at http://www.pariyatti.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We just opened today the Pariyatti Learning Center. See below for full description:

We are happy to announce the new Pariyatti Learning Center (PLC), an on-line training and resource center provided by Pariyatti. The PLC courses will be conducted via an on-line learning tool used by many Universities today to communicate with students and to distribute notes and on-line class materials. At the launch of the program, there will be two Pāli language courses made available. The first is an Introduction to Pāli which will include a variety of tools to help the student learn grammar, pronunciation, declensions as well as some lessons related to the Pāli used by S.N. Goenka during a 10 day Vipassana course. The second course, Exploring the sacred, ancient path in the direct words of the Buddha (ETP), is an applied Pāli course, involving working through select sutta translations. ETP intends to present suttas, that will enable the reader to deepen their inspiration and practice. A Vipassana meditator may recognize these suttas from various discourses of S.N. Goenka. ETP will include weekly lessons expected to be posted regularly for the next few years.

ETP will include weekly lessons that are expected to take a Pāli student somewhere between 20 and 45 minutes to complete. The goal is to have "bite sized" lessons that are sufficient to keep a student engaged, but not so overwhelming that they can't fit into an already busy schedule. The lessons are accessible enough for a student with no Pāli background and there is no need to complete the Introduction lessons to participate in the ETP lessons. All of the lessons will include a Pāli section, written and audio, followed by a customized glossary to help the student work through their own translation of the passage. In addition, there are extensive footnotes that add valuable information regarding the Pāli words themselves, their usage elsewhere in the Tipiṭaka, and other interesting items of note related to the passage under study. There will also be an English translation available for each lesson section, as well as other learning tools such as flash cards and quizzes. Additionally, the PLC has discussion forums and an online chat functionality built in -- our hope is that these interactive tools will bring a sense of community to the class and make it more engaging for participants.

The PLC will launch on July 15th, the Uposatha day known in many countries as Asalha. This is the full-moon day that commemorates the Buddha’s first discourse following his enlightenment, the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta or the Setting of the Wheel of Dhamma in Motion. The day that the PLC will launch is 2,600 years -- to the day -- according to Burmese tradition and the timeline used by the Sixth Buddhist Council (Chaṭṭha Saṅgāyana), that the Buddha’s first discourse was delivered to the five ascetics at the deer park known as Isipatana in modern day Sarnath, Northern India.

Thank you, TripleGem, it's useful.

For me, the English to Pali translation part seems redundant - what I need is to translate from Pali.

The translations of Pali terms in the course are often outdated - would you please consult the Margaret Cone's Pali-English dictionary? See also the discussions of Pali terms at:

http://www.dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=6114" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The quizzes would have benefitted from a better design - see, for example, free Hot Potatoes learning software: http://hotpot.uvic.ca/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; .

Best wishes, Dmytro

Oops ...I thought I scrolled down the pāḷi page before posting what turns out to be a duplicate of this topic. I hope the moderators can remove it.

Looks like a great resource.

I removed the duplicate.

No problem, though. It is good to have the reminder about this site again and gives us a chance to bump this up to the top again.
