Are these considered right livelihood?

Postby Tom » Mon Oct 01, 2012 11:52 pm

I'm thinking about becoming a web developer or computer programmer, however, I'd like to make sure these occupations fall within right livelihood. If anyone can comment on this, I'd very much appreciate it.

Not to be glib, but I can't imagine why these wouldn't be unless they are sites dealing in things illegal. Best of luck to you! :anjali:

Thank you for the information. I do have one more question: In MN 117, it says "And what is wrong livelihood? Scheming, persuading, hinting, belittling, & pursuing gain with gain. This is wrong livelihood...", what exactly is meant by "persuading", "hinting" and "pursuing gain with gain"?

Can't clearly identify for this question.

The same occupation may have many difference answer at difference environment-- boss, colleague, type of work, food, partner, etc.

You should decide it yourself with comparison with dhamma.

Example determination:

Any occupation that I never have any work need to done by these job:

-http://84000.org/tipitaka/dic/d_item.php?i=321 (have English translated in parenthesis.)

(For clearly by commentary, please focus to my reply in that topic.)

And any occupation I can done these:
-Uposathasīla every weekend.

And any occupation can given back all these:

-http://www.84000.org/tipitaka/dic/d_seek.php?text=%CA%D1%C1%BB%C3%D2%C2&detail=on#find4
-6 benefit must don't intimately obstruct self.

The last choice that I should consider: the best wage of the leave choice(s) from dhamma considered job.

I may choose that job.
Above message maybe out of date. Latest update will be in massage's link.
