House dana

Postby unspoken » Thu Aug 26, 2010 1:36 pm

My school teacher is going to have a house dana where we only invite a monk into the house and perform dana.

Can anyone tell me that what sutta/chants that on that day we will chant it out? Anyone can link me any audio chanting so that I can learn before hand the event which starts 2 weeks later?

These were a big help to me (and notice the download-able chant book):
http://www.abhayagiri.org/main/media/#chanting

http://www.dhammaloka.org.au/downloads/itemlist/category/27-chanting.html

Now I have a similar question: In the chant book there is a passage, "Requesting a Dhamma teaching", it is a chant to be completed by a lay person as a request to a monk. Anyone know where I can find this recorded as an audio file?
"As I am, so are others;
as others are, so am I."
Having thus identified self and others,
harm no one nor have them harmed.

For house blessings, it'll most likely be the Mangala sutta, Metta sutta, Ratana sutta and also the Jaya Mangala Gatha. You can find them here.
