Thanks. I don't think he will be back for a while. It took about 2 years of planning just to get him here for the three days he was here. But you never know, he might come sooner considering the great interest there was. A few people traveled from Los Angeles and another couple came from Arizona just to see him and hear him in person.marc108 wrote:What a great blessing for you. Thanks for posting the pics and videos!
Do you know if he'll be giving talks in the area anytime soon?

Ajahn Brahm graduated in physics by Cambridge University.LonesomeYogurt wrote:Great photos and video!
Do you know why he was talking at a healthcare professionals summit? I guess I don't know much about his pre-monk life, was he a doctor?

Re: Ajahn Brahm in Las Vegas!
He was invited over by Dr. Malika (photo on page one of this thread) and the Healthcare Professionals of Southern Nevada to speak at their annual convention/meeting. He has a degree in theoretical physics. His talks at the healthcare meetings focused on health care and also included Dhamma teachings; focusing on the mental health aspects, self-help features and the importance of caring for patients rather than just thinking about treating patients.LonesomeYogurt wrote: Do you know why he was talking at a healthcare professionals summit? Thanks David,
In the video you posted he made the plea I've heard him make often, that medical professionals should focus less on "cure" and more on "care". If I recall the manner of doctors I've encountered, the latter does appear to have lost ground over my lifetime, and I've heard the issue raised by some medical professionals, just last week on the radio in fact...

Re: Ajahn Brahm in Las Vegas!
Great talk by Ajahn Brahm. Yes, gaming, not gambling. Most people who do come to Las Vegas come to just see shows and other entertainment, not for gambling or if they do gamble, do so with a strict budget and just as a form of entertainment, not expecting to win (what he calls gaming, not gambling). Sure, it would be inappropriate for monastics to attend shows or gamble, but for lay people there is nothing wrong with a little entertainment, after all watching tv, sports, going to shows, movies, etc., are also entertainment.

good to see other Brahmaddicts here on dhamma wheel.... I credit Ajahn Brahm as my first real Buddhist teacher and being in large part the source that helped me turn my meditation practice around and begin to flourish. It would be an honor to meet him one of these days.

Some round cushions I found in a local store shaped sort of like zafus, so purchased them for the meditation hall
Re: Introducing Maha Bodhi LV
Great photos, David.
I love the chip cushions, they're a scream!
Kind regards,
Ben
