Pilgrimage sites in Burma

Hi everyone

For those of you who have gone and those who intend on going, what are your top Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Burma and why?
It might be of benefit to those members who are intending to go now or in the future.

Hello Ben,

I was on a pilgrimage visit to Myanmar in October 2003 with Khun Sujins' group. Most of my notes are lost on a long dead computer. I still remember on my first visit to the Schwedagon Temple being literally struck dumb for the first (and only) time in my life by the beauty and grandeur of this temple. I also think the multiplicity of ancient Temples of Bagan ought to be one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Here is a post by a friend on that trip:

For not-to-be-missed pilgrimage sites, I would strongly suggest the Shwedagon Pagoda, Rangoon, the stupendous multitude of temples in Bagan, and Kuthodaw Pagoda with its 'Worlds' largest library" engraved on standing stones, in Mandalay

Thanks Chris, I appreciate the links and recommendations.

I'm interested to know to locate Ledi Sayadaw's monastery, http://www.travelpod.com/travel-photo/k ... /tpod.html I know its somewhere around Monywa. I've been able to find a photo taken from the entrance of his meditation cave, http://www.flickr.com/photos/raytomes/405041915/ but nothing specific. It looks like its across the river from Mandalay and not Monywa.
