Whatever medicines are found
In the world — many and varied —
None are equal to the Dhamma.
Drink of this, monks!
And having drunk
The medicine of the Dhamma,
You'll be untouched by age and death.
Having meditated and seen —
(You'll be) healed by ceasing to cling.
Pain is to be expected; no pain is to be appreciated. Considering the complexity of our society and world, the probability that we can please all others, gods and also ourselves and have everything work smoothly together is rather low (10-20%?), so we shouldn't be surprised/depressed by the occurrence of mental suffering. Considering the complexity of the systems of the body, its aging/breaking down, and various external influencing factors, the probability that every part can function together properly without illness is also rather low. so we also shouldn't moan and groan over the bodily suffering. Through experience I've found out that Dhamma is the best medicine for both mental and physical pain. Focus our attention on the Dhamma study and practice and use suffering as a vehicle for awakening is the best strategy for coping with pain.
To facilitate myself and others to use the Dhamma medicine to cope with both mental and physical pain, I'm summarizing the important suttas and chants I've gathered so far from various friends' contribution to the topic of pain. Please add more if I miss some.

Thanks and metta!
