I didn't realize so many people are migraine sufferers too!! Mine is triggered by heat and comes with photophobia.

How meditation helped me was it helped me to calm down and cope with the pains. By not getting agitated with the pain, it helped me to lessen the intensity. When the intensity lessened, I naturally relaxed more and the pain lessens. Kindda like a chicken and egg.

Except for a selected few, meditation will not get rid of headaches. It does help one learn to accept and cope with the pains though.

Another remedy I use is either coffee (caffeine somehow helps with migraines) or to drink isotonic drinks (the ones in my country are carbonated so I have to dilute them 1:1 with water).

Good Luck.

Sure.

It's not easy to tell, becuase my post doesn't appear after Retros, to which it is referring to, but jumped to the next page. So I decided to quote him.

He asked a probing question that may be difficult to reply to for a newbie and throw that person off.

But while editing, I got interrupted by work..

For your reading convenience, here their exchange:

How do you know that to be so?

I would like to seek your advise and help for a perennial problem my sister has. She is having extreme headaches for the last couple of years and we have gone to every specialist and undergone all kinds of treatments but the headaches never stop. They go on for days and now it has become unbearable. Finally she is on medication that corrects the chemical imbalances in the brain. The good part is that the severity of the headaches reduced but she should be on constant medication.

I read a great deal about Dhamma(I am very new) and in one of the articles, I read that some chronic diseases can be cured by Vipassana/meditation.

I would appreciate if you can help me direct for any kind of solution. I am thinking of recommending Dhamma Meditation for 10 day's(Goenka's). Please guide us.

Thanks
Hello friend.

Think you can say to your sister try to change the attention of the pain to the breath and focus on it, feeling it, experiencing it. Some times the pain increase for the excess attention that with have for it, the feeling becomes more intensity.

When pain comes to my body I usually try to be mindfull and see how the initial clinging to the pain happened and rapidly it goes away, the pain is very impermanent.

Actually, as many said, headchaques can be caused from thousands of reasons. The best thing to do is to experiment the things and go for professional help.

Kind Regards.
