General discussion of issues related to Theravada Meditation, e.g. meditation postures, developing a regular sitting practice, skillfully relating to difficulties and hindrances, etc.

Hello All,
I know this is the meditation sub-forum but I was hoping to get suggestions for any books dealing with the actual technique (patipatti) rather than theory (pariyatti) of metta bhavana. Any and all suggestions would be welcome. Be well!

This offering maybe right, or wrong, but it is one, the other, both, or neither!

"To reach beyond fear and danger we must sharpen and widen our vision. We have to pierce through the deceptions that lull us into a comfortable complacency, to take a straight look down into the depths of our existence, without turning away uneasily or running after distractions." -- Bhikkhu Bodhi

I wouldnt get too hung up on technique in the case of Metta meditations Khalil Bodhi
It could be written in a paragraph but is the work of a lifetime to actualise..

Greetings,
I like the Visuddhimagga's instructions on metta.
Metta,
Retro.

If you have asked me of the origination of unease, then I shall explain it to you in accordance with my understanding:
Whatever various forms of unease there are in the world, They originate founded in encumbering accumulation. (Pārāyanavagga)'We should not congratulate someone on the success of their misdeeds, but on the contrary should endeavour to advise him or her to lead a more skilful and wholesome life. If such advice is ignored then we can only give up and let go' - Phra PanyapatipoDharma Wheel (Mahayana / Vajrayana forum)

Agreed.
Bhante Gunaratana gives an excellent overview of how to practice Metta in his new book Beyond Mindfulness in Plain English. Highly recommend.
