The Benefits of Guided Meditation

I have a regular meditation practice, but I've been wondering about the benefits of supplementing this with some type of guided meditation. One part of my practice that I neglect is cultivating metta, and I wonder if some type of guided loving kindness meditation might help with this. I would be interested in other people's thoughts as to the benefits of audio guided meditations and if they have any suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

Greetings,

I quite like the Malcolm Huxter ones on Buddhanet - there's a metta one, roughly 25-30 minutes long if I remember correctly.

Metta,
Retro. :)

I found guided meditations to be a great help when i first started meditating on my own and without access to a teacher.

Here's some links i found very helpful:

May i throw in a question without opening another thread for it?

I´m looking for a short introduction into basic samatha meditation practice. It should be written in plain english, readable within about an hour. Or a talk up to about 2 hours length.

There are so much texts out there in the net im overwhelmed with the task to find a good one.

Thanks for the links guys; I'll check them out. I also hope somebody can suggest something for kaktus.

I would be interested in hearing other people's experience with guided practice - is it just something that is only suitable for beginners?

Hi Kaktus,

every teacher has his own unique style, so you'll probably have to try a few different approaches to see what works for you. I like Ajahn Brahm's method:

They also have a lot of guided meditations online (half hour/one hour): http://www.dhammaloka.org.au/downloads/ ... ation.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I recently listened to one of Ajahn Vayama's guided meditations and found it quite good (30 min - body sweeping/anapanasati):
