A good book to start with would be Ven Nyanaponika's HEART OF BUDDHIST MEDITATION, from there Joseph Goldstein's INSIGHT MEDITATION and then Ven Pesala could give you a good guide as to what books by Mahasi Sayadaw that would be good. Also, U Pandita's books can be added to this list.

Also, STRONG ROOTS by Jake Davis, http://www.dharma.org/bcbs/Pages/docume ... gRoots.pdf is an interesting, lengthy look at the Mahasi Sayadaw practice and its coming to the West. It is quite good.

Why not go right to the source himself?

Practical Insight Meditation: Basic and Progressive Stages by  Ven. Mahasi Sayadaw
http://www.pariyatti.org/Bookstore/prod ... cfm?PC=457

Satipatthana Vipassana: Insight Through Mindfulness
by  Ven. Mahasi Sayadaw
http://www.pariyatti.org/Bookstore/prod ... cfm?PC=484

The Progress of Insight: A Treatise on Satipatthana Meditation by Ven. Mahasi Sayadaw
http://www.pariyatti.org/Bookstore/prod ... cfm?PC=461

Three of my favorite books.
