Hi everyone! For me, group meditations are really essential to helping me continue my practice, and monastic communities are even better. Last winter I made a Google Map of Buddhist centers near Boston. I was surprised that there was no general list of Buddhist centers on Google Maps. Often this information is divided up by local area or place of origin-- you can't find Cambodian centers on a Thai map, and so forth. Is anyone interested in compiling this sort of list? Or did I miss one that's already out there?

Theravada centers in the United States (maps?)
Re: Theravada centers in the United States (maps?)
Hi Avery,
Nice map!
Are you aware of http://www.buddhanet.info/wbd/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ?
It is text based, and not necessarily complete, but perhaps you could do something with their database...

Cambridge Insight Meditation Center, a pretty famous center, not on your list. But it looks good so far. Perhaps some of us could do the same for our own cities we live in.

Greetings,
Metta,
Retro.
Not me... it will just depress me how far away the Theravada centres are from my suburb!David N. Snyder wrote:Perhaps some of us could do the same for our own cities we live in.

Re: Theravada centers in the United States (maps?)
Hi Avery,
I'm arranging a map in the Sadhu! Theravada Web Directory http://dhamma.ru/sadhu/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Recently the engine of the directory broke, so I changed the engine to one with a map, and restore manually all the entries from the preserved data file.
So far the USA Theravada organizations are not entered, - it requires time to put in the data and fetch the coordinates.
If anyone would like to take part in this work, you are most welcome.
USA map with a few organizations is already visible in the corresponding category.

I'm not sure how up to date it is and it lists all traditions, but there is also the world wide guide from Dharmanet
In reading the scriptures, there are two kinds of mistakes:
One mistake is to cling to the literal text and miss the inner principles.
The second mistake is to recognize the principles but not apply them to your own mind, so that you waste time and just make them into causes of entanglement.
