Researchers continue to demonstrate that fish "feel" pain

In reading the scriptures, there are two kinds of mistakes:
One mistake is to cling to the literal text and miss the inner principles.
The second mistake is to recognize the principles but not apply them to your own mind, so that you waste time and just make them into causes of entanglement.

I have never understood how people come to the assumption that certain animals don't feel pain, don't have consciousness or similar ideas. And that torturous research has to be performed in order to prove the opposite is totally beyond my comprehension.

If fish could scream then fishing would not be so popular.

Of course they feel pain. They have a nervous system. All animals that have a nervous system feel pain.

Better make sure not to be reborn as a fish. Apart from stupid experiments performed by humans there are many disadvantages.

Good advice. I'll work on that.
