Thank you for making this very interesting post!
In reading the scriptures, there are two kinds of mistakes:
One mistake is to cling to the literal text and miss the inner principles.
The second mistake is to recognize the principles but not apply them to your own mind, so that you waste time and just make them into causes of entanglement.

The control condition was reading a magazine in experiment 1.

In experiment 2, the control conditions were relaxation and distraction (by doing serial calculations, i.e. start at 1000 and subtract by 7. Ack!).

There's no way a study would have made it into a journal like that without adequate controls. It's a very reputable one.

That's a different study, but the conclusions are the same.
