Pali Term: pāṇātipāta

Hi, Everyone,

This phrase is usually translated as 'harming/killing living beings', pāṇin interpreted as 'living being'. My question is if it can refer to a more specific group of 'living beings' for the word itself means (or could mean some time ago) 'breathing entity'. Is there any text (sutta, vinaya rule, Jain text etc.) that lists these 'breathing beings'?
