Upekkha's value in a picture
Have you ever noticed how some people who are very jolly and funny, the life of the party, also have another side? It seems the two actor masks really do go together and that one must spend an equal amount of time with each extreme; unless one is more balanced, with equanimity.

It's also important to balance upekkha with the 3 other brahmaviharas. When done skillfully that can help bring one to a much brighter & balanced happiness, yes?David N. Snyder wrote:

"As Buddhists, we should aim to develop relationships that are not predominated by grasping and clinging. Our relationships should be characterised by the brahmaviharas of metta (loving kindness), mudita (sympathetic joy), karuna (compassion), and upekkha (equanimity)."

Good point! Otherwise, one might end up with indifference, the near enemy of equanimity.christopher::: wrote: It's also important to balance upekkha with the 3 other brahmaviharas. When done skillfully that can help bring one to a much brighter & balanced happiness, yes?

And vice versa....metta without upekkha becomes sentimental identification with the other.christopher::: wrote:It's also important to balance upekkha with the 3 other brahmaviharas. When done skillfully that can help bring one to a much brighter & balanced happiness, yes?David N. Snyder wrote:
