Somewhere I had read the translation of the Pali word "Paritta" is referring to "Spell" by Ven. Thanissaro Bhikkhu, but in other contexts, it is referring to "Protection".

Khandha Paritta
The Group Protection
Katā me rakkhā, Katā me parittā,
Paṭikkamantu bhūtāni.
I have made this protection, I have made this spell. May the beings depart.
Mora Paritta
The Peacock's Protection
Imaṃ so parittaṃ katvā
Moro vāsamakappayīti.
Having made this protection, the peacock arranges his nest.
