According to the registration section, my name is MMK23.

I have been lurking for a while, and I have come to the startling conclusion that this is an internet forum about Buddhism that seems to contain generally reasonable discussion! This is quite rare so I thought I would register. I am student (in the many sense of the word) and particularly a student of Buddhism. I am Theravādin myself, and that is also my main area of interest for my studies (why study something you don't care about?) I have a particular interest in Buddhaghosa, and especially the Visuddhimagga, for which I have a profound and unreasonable affection.

“Mendicants, these two [types of persons] defame the Tathāgata.
(The mendicants asked) What are the two [types of persons]?
(The Lord Buddha responded) The malicious, or the inwardly angry, and the one with (blind) faith or the one who holds things incorrectly.
Mendicants, these two [types of persons] defame the Tathāgata.”

"Others will misconstrue reality based on personal perspectives, firmly holding onto and not easily discarding them; We shall not misconstrue reality due to our personal perspectives, nor firmly holding them, but easily discarded."

Hey there and welcome :hello:
The dogmatists have claimed to have found the truth, others say that it cannot be apprehended; the Sceptics continue the search.

Greetings MMK23,

Welcome to Dhamma Wheel.

welcome to Dhamma Wheel MMK!

“No lists of things to be done. The day providential to itself. The hour. There is no later. This is later. All things of grace and beauty such that one holds them to one's heart have a common provenance in pain. Their birth in grief and ashes.”
- Cormac McCarthy, The Road

Learn this from the waters:
in mountain clefts and chasms,
loud gush the streamlets,
but great rivers flow silently.

Welcome! It's very nice to have you here.
Rain soddens what is kept wrapped up,
But never soddens what is open;
Uncover, then, what is concealed,
Lest it be soddened by the rain.

Thanks everyone. There's clearly a lot of serious thinkers here, which is truly excellent. Thanks for having me.
