what is Dissolution (Bhanga) ?

Postby maverick » Fri Sep 23, 2011 12:00 am

I have been practicing Vipassana (S.N Goenka) for few years, but I am not sure If I experienced Dissolution yet :).
I know its hard to describe these kind of things with words, but still I want someone to who experienced it to explain it for me to satisfy my curious mind :) Can any help ?.

Dose different person experience it in a different way ?
Are there any sutta's that describe the quality a person develops once he experience Dissolution ?
From an inconstruable beginning comes transmigration. A beginning point is not evident, though beings hindered by ignorance and fettered by craving are transmigrating & wandering on. Long have you thus experienced stress, enough to be RELEASED.

The path is not about becoming a better person — it is about putting an end to becoming

Yes. There is some discussion here:

"As I am, so are others;
as others are, so am I."
Having thus identified self and others,
harm no one nor have them harmed.

Hi Maverick

My advice, as a long-time student of SN Goenka, is not to worry about it. There is a tendency among some students to chase certain experiences which is not the point of practice. Any craving for this or that attainment becomes a barrier for its attainment. Concentrate on observing whatever arises as it arises. I haven't seen Bhangha-nana in the suttas but it is described in Vism and, to my knowledge, in the Abhidhamma (see Bhikkhu Bodhi's Comprehensive Manual of the Abhdihamma). Also see Mahasi Sayadaw's 'progress of insight'.
All the very best with your practice.
kind regards

Ben

Here's a short talk on it:

And an interview with a student who is experiencing it:
