Greetings all,
For those of you who are interested in things astronomical, the transit of Venus will occur on June 5 2012 (North and Central America) and June 6 Eurasia, East Asia, Central & Eastern Australia and NZ. Not viewable from most of Africa, Europe and South America.

It will be the last transit until December 11, 2117.
Captain Cook's first voyage of discovery in the late 18th Century to observe the transit of Venus at Tahiti was also the voyage where he was given orders to search for Terra Australis which led to the discovery of New Zealand and the east coast of Australia.
