Greetings bhante,
I hope you have yourself a highly agreeable impermanence day!

Metta,
Retro.

If you have asked me of the origination of unease, then I shall explain it to you in accordance with my understanding:
Whatever various forms of unease there are in the world, They originate founded in encumbering accumulation. (Pārāyanavagga)'We should not congratulate someone on the success of their misdeeds, but on the contrary should endeavour to advise him or her to lead a more skilful and wholesome life. If such advice is ignored then we can only give up and let go' - Phra PanyapatipoDharma Wheel (Mahayana / Vajrayana forum)

Happy Birthday, Venerable Sir!
Out of curiosity, do members of the Sangha commemorate their birthdays in anyway?

Best wishes on this day and every other.

Rain soddens what is kept wrapped up,
But never soddens what is open;
Uncover, then, what is concealed,
Lest it be soddened by the rain.

Here is a little birthday ditty (if you are allowed) with Buddhist lyrics:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQd4tAQJT_M
What is the use of his knowledge
pertaining to the number of insects in the whole world?
Rather, inquire into his knowledge of
that which is to be practised by us
-- Dharmakirti
This being is bound to samsara, kamma is his means for going beyond.
SN I, 38.
Níl sa saol seo ach ceo
There is naught in this life but mist
Is ní bheimid beo ach seal beag gearr.
And we will not be alive but a short hard time.

Happy Birthday Ven. Dhammanando!
I have enjoyed reading your contributions to this site.
Four types of letting go:
1) Giving; expecting nothing back in return
2) Throwing things away
3) Contentment; wanting to be here, not wanting to be anywhere else
4) "Teflon Mind"; having a mind which doesn't accumulate things

In the case of very senior or very famous monks the laity might arrange a birthday party. The rest mostly just follow the general Thai birthday practice of doing some kind of merit-making act such as freeing a captive fish or a turtle, or offering gifts to their fellow monks.
