Hello From North Wales

Post by jonathan charles »

Hello, I just thought I would introduce myself, my name is Jonathan and I have just registered here on the forum. I have been practising meditation and mindfullness for just over a year, the change in the way I think and feel have been nothing short of amazing.

Problem with this is its hard to share with other people who are not familiar with meditation -or mindfullness, and though its something I would like to share - in order to show other people there is a way out of the suffering we create for ourselves....it just doesnt work like that does it :)

I came across Buddhism when I was recieving treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of my military service in the Falklands War in 1982.
I met a fellow veteran who was practising Meditation and mindfullness and I became interested in what it was all about, he is a prison chaplain with Anguilimara (I think thats how you spell it ) he may be a familiar face amongst many of you on this site.

I am gratefull to him for his time and patience in helping me understand the subtleties of Buddhism .

I realised I have lived the last 53 years in ignorance, Trying to find something in Drugs Alchohol was so foolish and heedless.
I realise I was mindless,I realise my Ego was as big as Brasil !! Now I realise I am nobody -with nothing to do nowhere to go, and nobody to be....what a relief. I am but a swirling mass of atoms that arises and passes away.

"May all beings be well, may all beings be happy."

peace to you all Jonathan

Welcome Jonathan!

Liberation is the inevitable fruit of the path and is bound to blossom forth when there is steady and persistent practice. The only requirements for reaching the final goal are two: to start and to continue. If these requirements are met there is no doubt the goal will be attained. This is the Dhamma, the undeviating law.

Welcome! It's so nice to see someone reap such a benefit from the Dhamma.

What tradition do you meditate in? Do you have any specific one?

This is a link to any Theravada groups in Wales. I hope it helps!
Gain and loss, status and disgrace,
censure and praise, pleasure and pain:
these conditions among human beings are inconstant,
impermanent, subject to change.

Knowing this, the wise person, mindful,
ponders these changing conditions.
Desirable things don’t charm the mind,
undesirable ones bring no resistance.

His welcoming and rebelling are scattered,
gone to their end,
do not exist.
