Super Famous Buddhists

Post by yawares »

Dear Members,

Do you know that some of our most favorite movie stars are Buddhists and do charities in the name of our great Buddhas???... Famous Buddhists list : Harrison Ford/Richard Gere etc.

Since so many Hollywood stars and blockbusters sell Buddhism, is it the coolest religion along with yoga?

Most movie stars are Buddhist from Richard Gere and Orlando Bloom to Keanu Reeves and Oliver Stone to even Sharon Stone, Tina Turner, Miranda Kerr, Harrison Ford etc even Lisa Simpson and so many blockbusters from Star Wars to the Matrix sell Buddhism. A lot of my friends think its "cool" to be Buddhist and even Angelina and Beckam have sanskrit tattoos. Also, Time Magazine says Buddhism and yoga are the fastest growing religions in the western world .. is it cool to be Buddhist and if so why?

-----
Richard Gere is one such celebrity. Richard Gere makes his admiration for the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan spiritual leader in exile, well known. Gere periodically retreats to Tibet to brush up on his Buddhism. While there, the actor enjoys a very different existence than he does in Hollywood. According to Gere, he has a simple room and has to share a bathroom. There is a limited supply of water and no television, air conditioning or newspapers. Self-prescribed torture? For Gere, as he explains it, this is his time to relax, to meditate, to release.

Yes, probably just for fun. She has one child from Cambodia and has been seen going to Buddhist temples with him, which probably set off the rumors. She was most likely going there to introduce him to Cambodian / Southeast Asian culture.

Dear David,
I'm not surprised about Jackie Chan ...most Asian actors/actresses are Buddhists.
I wish Tom Cruise/Paul Walker/Chris Evan were Buddhists too...because they are so cool!

I'd vote for Christopher Walken

As a Buddhist or a new buddy for Cruise and the Thetan Army?

Forget Tom Cruise, though I thought he was quite good in THE WAR OF THE WORLDS. Christopher Walken as a Buddhist, along with the late great Dennis Hopper.

And of course Christopher Lee, who will always be Lord Summerisle to me:

And, of course, Bill Murray, who has already got a set of robes:

I was quite surprised by his performance in War of the Worlds. It was actually very good and his character had some real depth.
Dennis Hopper - he would have been great. I just remember him in Apocalypse Now! I think he was just channeling himself in that scene where Martin Sheen was in the cage.
I'd vote for Willem Defoe.

Defoe, good choice:

I was particularly taken by Defoe in "The Last Temptation of Christ" but more recently in his lead role in "The Hunter" which is set down here.
Goldblum is also great.

The girls I am familiar with but their names escape me. The first one looks like a very young Sigourney Weaver.
