Meditation in Cairns
Meditation in Cairns
I have recently been researching Dhamma groups in Cairns, North Queensland, and havent come up with much. The ones I have contacted have either closed down, don't respond or are plain secretive. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Perhaps this site might help:

Re: Meditation in Cairns
Thanks Ben
I'm a member of Buddhanet but its listings for Cairns are out of date. I went to find the Buddhist library/Zen centre only today and it is now a gym. The FNQ Buddhist Association phone is disconnected and Wat Khemarangsee just doesn't answer the phone or emails. That's about it for Theravada up here.

Re: Meditation in Cairns
It might be worthwhile contacting Ven. Pannyavaro. Perhaps he knows via his contacts whether there is a local sangha or contact in the area - or plans to establish one.
I wish you all the best. If you find you don't have a local sangha - you aren't alone in that regard. Many of our members practice in isolation.
kind regards
Ben

Re: Meditation in Cairns
Hi, Sutiro,
I don't know of any Theravada groups in Cairns (sorry) but you could contact http://www.yuloling.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
As you will see, it is Vajrayana, but Ven Rinchen is friendly, sensible and helpful. She will tell you of other groups in Cairns if there are any.
If there aren't, you might consider going along to Yulo Ling just to have a group to share with and encourage your practice. It might not be exactly what you want, but it might be better than nothing.
I guess the other alternative group choice would be a yoga or tai chi group, and I'm sure you will find several of those.

I've been Theravada for over30 years now. I have found a new Theravada group near Cairns, the Vinyana Samanas http://www.fourwindslao.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; If you hear of any more let me know.
