Great Places to study the Suttas

Post by Christopherxx »

Like many here I find the suttas to be a rich source of content relating to the dhamma.

Are there locations in which one can have access to the whole of the pali canon and related early texts and enjoy instruction as well quality study time (much like a university) without the bias of a certain schools interpreation , etc?

I look at what has taken place in the academic field of theology in the christian arena and some of the greatest "advances' have been in the universities which allowed for free inquiry.

Thanks everyone :)

Access to Insight is probably best.
Gain and loss, status and disgrace,
censure and praise, pleasure and pain:
these conditions among human beings are inconstant,
impermanent, subject to change.

Knowing this, the wise person, mindful,
ponders these changing conditions.
Desirable things don’t charm the mind,
undesirable ones bring no resistance.

His welcoming and rebelling are scattered,
gone to their end,
do not exist.

As this thread is not about the classical interpretation of the ancient texts, I shall move it into a more appropriate forum.
kind regards

Greetings Christopher,

Why not look at a university?
Many monastics and lay Buddhists attend universities around the world to study the Dhamma.

Here are some, for starters:

Oxford Centre for Buddhist Studies: http://www.ocbs.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Centre for Buddhism Studies at Hamburg University: http://www.buddhismuskunde.uni-hamburg. ... .html?&L=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Dept. of Pali and Buddhist Studies, University of Peradeniya: http://www.arts.pdn.ac.lk/pali/aboutus.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
International Theravada Buddhist, University, Yangon, Myanmar: http://atbu.org/node/120" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
SITAGU Buddhist University, Sagaing, Myanmar
World Buddhist University, Thailand: http://www.worldbuddhistuniversity.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And I am sure there are many, many others in the East and West.
kind regards,

Ben

Beside accesstoinsight, there's http://tipitaka.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; which has the complete DN and MN. The rest are work in progress..
