Re: Not very Buddhist.
In german there is a word "Enttäuschung" which in its normal use means something like disappointment. But when we look more exact on the word (ent = negation, täuschung = illusion) its like disillusion.
Understanding what Buddha had taught (her the first noble truth) has to go through many disillustions and the more disappointment, the more grows the faith into a safe offshore.
A day of no disappointment is a day of illusion, or already on a good track. To get throught this is our appointment. So actually its good to be enttäuscht.

Just that! *smile*
...We Buddhists must find the courage to leave our temples and enter the temples of human experience, temples that are filled with suffering. If we listen to Buddha, Christ, or Gandhi, we can do nothing else. The refugee camps, the prisons, the ghettos, and the battlefields will become our temples. We have so much work to do. ... Peace is Possible! Step by Step. - Samtach Preah Maha Ghosananda "Step by Step" http://www.ghosananda.org/bio_book.html
BUT! it is important to become a real Buddhist first. Like Punna did: Punna Sutta Nate sante baram sokham _()_

Re: Not very Buddhist.
It's not buddhism and not buddhists.
When some buddhist kill some one - automaticly he is no more buddhist, aven if he still thinking and telling that he is a buddhist the one who is lead by Buddha Teachings.
So we cant say that there is buddhism somewhere.
But, we can say, that there is peoples, who killing them selves, being attachet to their identity, they are ready to DIE for this identity... What these foolish peoples will make with their buddhist or muslims or whatever identity after death ?
Mara won.

At the end of the day, just ask ourselves what we can do to help. If you have money, donate. If you don't, raise awareness. But please do something. A few bucks that you give won't help someone attain enlightenment but it sure will help hundreds of poor children over there not having to go through another day of the living hell of diseases and starvation. The site below was audited by Charity Navigator and got very good rating. Please do what you can..

Re: Not very Buddhist.
i think even a killer can acquire the buddhist-title later.. but at the moment of killing it is on the contrary to buddhism

Re: Not very Buddhist.
correct from your point of view..
I was thinking an enlightened being would be a buddhist.. but, yes, a killer becoming enlightened would still not be a buddhist, if the title requires not having been excluded from the sangha in the past..
but i would consider him/her (in later enlightened form) a buddhist
