What just happened?`

Postby LonesomeYogurt » Thu Oct 04, 2012 2:44 am

Anyone watching the presidential debates in America? Obama just, well...he got his ass handed to him.

What just happened?
Gain and loss, status and disgrace,
censure and praise, pleasure and pain:
these conditions among human beings are inconstant,
impermanent, subject to change.

Knowing this, the wise person, mindful,
ponders these changing conditions.
Desirable things don’t charm the mind,
undesirable ones bring no resistance.

His welcoming and rebelling are scattered,
gone to their end,
do not exist.

Whatever happened, we had better hope that he gets through, because I've heard how Romney would 'deal' with Iran if elected and it's scary stuff for the world.

I'm no fan of Obama, but at least the man has a developed cerebral cortex and is relatively sane.

Peace.

If you're an Obama supporter, there is nothing to worry about. I believe Obama will win in a landslide or near landslide.

(I mention for the benefit of some who may not know the election process in the U.S.): The polls measuring all Americans are meaningless. It is the electoral votes that count and that is based on the "point" value of each state and whoever wins a specific state, wins all of the "points" / electoral votes of that state. One possible landslide scenario:

http://electoralmap.net/2012/myPredicti ... 0qo0xrwq0z

Obama 416
Romney 122

Texas has been leaning more and more "Blue" in recent elections but even if you change the Texas count to Red and also Arizona and Florida too, then it would be:

Obama 338
Romney 200

And then further if you change Virginia and North Carolina to Red:

Obama 310
Romney 228

So, in other words, Romney has no chance.

Yes, but Sampson slew 20,000 Philistines and pulled down a temple with nice hair and the jawbone of an ass.

Romney has both, so watch out.

Obama wins!!

My prediction (see above) wasn't that far off after all.

The counting is still being done but it looks like it will be:

Electoral votes:
Obama 332
Romney 206

Listening to him now.

Three cheers for the great (Irish) president, Mr O'Bama!

Awww, shucks! Everyone can like who they want.

Since I'm Canadian, I lean left (it gives me an uneven gait, but I live with it). As such, I have a deep distrust for the righters in the US. Even Obama has given us some scares up here in the North-Country.

I agree there is definitely too much made and too much voter decision based on personality rather than issues.

For me, one of the key factors was which one is less likely to go to another war, which one is less likely to engage in nation building. You would think we would learn from history, but apparently not. Other than that, I agree with you mostly that there is not much difference between the two. Not much gets done either way as they don't have as much power as they would like. They do seem to have plenty of power for using military force unnecessarily, for some reason, though.
