A good read

Postby Bonsai Doug » Wed Oct 17, 2012 1:46 pm

Getting back to my Theravada roots, I've come across a book I'd not read. But it is one that I believe
might be of interest and value to both beginners and "not-so-beginners."

"Everything Is Teaching Us"
A Collection of Dhammatalks by Ajahn Chah

A very basic, down-to-earth explanation of many of the fundamentals of Buddhism. It deals with what is
mostly the foundational aspects of Buddhism from a Theravada perspective.

It can be read online here: http://www.ajahnchah.org/book/_Everythi ... aching.php

Or downloaded here: http://www.ajahnchah.org/pdf/everything ... ing_us.pdf
Now having obtained a precious human body,
I do not have the luxury of remaining on a distracted path.

Thanks for the heads up, I'd never heard of it before!
Gain and loss, status and disgrace,
censure and praise, pleasure and pain:
these conditions among human beings are inconstant,
impermanent, subject to change.

Knowing this, the wise person, mindful,
ponders these changing conditions.
Desirable things don’t charm the mind,
undesirable ones bring no resistance.

His welcoming and rebelling are scattered,
gone to their end,
do not exist.

Thanks for the link.
I have read only "Monatery of confusion" so far. Must read. Very difficult subject in plain english.
