Question regarding "jathaka katha"

Postby danesh » Sun Nov 11, 2012 4:42 am

Hi All,
I am Buddhist from Sri Lanka and having question regarding of "Jathaka katha". I assume "Jathaka katha" were not included anywhere in "Thripitaka" (Vinaya, Abhidamma and Sutra). I hope If there anyone in this forum who have already fully read all "Thripitaka" may able to answer my question. Thanks in advance.

May triple gem bless you.

Bhikkhu Pesala knows quite a bit about the Jataka tales, you might try PMing him?
Gain and loss, status and disgrace,
censure and praise, pleasure and pain:
these conditions among human beings are inconstant,
impermanent, subject to change.

Knowing this, the wise person, mindful,
ponders these changing conditions.
Desirable things don’t charm the mind,
undesirable ones bring no resistance.

His welcoming and rebelling are scattered,
gone to their end,
do not exist.

Hello danesh,

My understanding is that the Jataka Stories are not Buddhavacana (Word of the Buddha), but that the Jataka Verses in the stories are Buddhavacana (Word of the Buddha).

I agree with Lonesome Yogurt about asking Bhikkhu Pesala about this.
