Greetings from Connecticut USA!!

Post by nrose619 »

Hey all! I've been reading the book "How to see yourself as you really are" by his holiness the Dalai Lama and other books on Buddhism. I am new but very interested in the buddhist philosophy and would be very grateful if you all would assist me in my journey. :buddha1:

flies over the autumn lake.
When it has passed,
the lake's surface does not try
to hold on to the image of the bird."

Welcome! You may be interested in checking out the "Discovering Theravada" forum and all the introductory resources there.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama is not a Theravada teacher, but many here respect him. If you are interested in Tibetan Buddhism, try checking out the sister site http://www.dharmawheel.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Have a nice stay!
Gain and loss, status and disgrace,
censure and praise, pleasure and pain:
these conditions among human beings are inconstant,
impermanent, subject to change.

Knowing this, the wise person, mindful,
ponders these changing conditions.
Desirable things don’t charm the mind,
undesirable ones bring no resistance.

His welcoming and rebelling are scattered,
gone to their end,
do not exist.

My mistake. Thank you for your response I will look into both aspects of Buddhism with care.

Welcome to Dhamma Wheel, nrose!
“No lists of things to be done. The day providential to itself. The hour. There is no later. This is later. All things of grace and beauty such that one holds them to one's heart have a common provenance in pain. Their birth in grief and ashes.”
- Cormac McCarthy, The Road

Learn this from the waters:
in mountain clefts and chasms,
loud gush the streamlets,
but great rivers flow silently.
