Sri Lanka draws up Healthy Menu for Monks

Hello all,

This is important. Please don't continually give ''party food'' to monks as food dana, as it is a significant contributing factor to their increasing ill-health:

The link didn't work, but I'll assume the best, and hope they rule out sweets. Anyone who has been to Thailand has seen shrines loaded up with junk food. The soda bottles (complete with straws, of course) draw numerous bees. It's ridiculous.
A diet of white rice and sugar will make anyone sick.

I'm glad to see this being addressed.

Education is the biggest thing. By helping the laity in any country to understand that "healthy" is the best "treat" you can give to a monk/nun we can help create conditions a lot more profitable for these young/old men and woman.

Very good to see :)!

(And we need to help a lot of laity understand what "healthy" is) Plenty of whole grains and vegetables. Lentils and beans for protein, etc. All cooked in healthy ways (steaming, etc.) :namaste:
