It's interesting that Ven Nyanaponika is usually referred to simply as German, [e.g. here
], omitting the fact that he was Jewish (who, luckily, was able to leave early enough).

Ironically, he, along with Ven Nyanatiloka, was interred by the British in India during the second world war. The preface to Ven Nyanatiloka's Buddhist Dictionary
lists "Central Internment Camp Dehra-Dun, India" as his address.
