Three Buddhist Monks die in Scottish Road Accident

Post by forestmat »

Sad news on Christmas Eve - seems that three Thai monks were killed in a road traffic accident in Scotland yesterday - Thai TV news this morning showed photographs of the monks and indicated that the three were Thai nationals.

This is very sad. May the Monks all have fortunate rebirths, and may their friends and family find support and comfort.

Unconfirmed yet - but I think Wat Buddhapadipa in Wimbledon http://www.buddhapadipa.org/ is where at least one of the monks was living according to Thai news report now.

Confirmed since yesterday, I met 2 of the monks not that long ago at a funeral ceremony at Wimbledon Thai temple. They were young, in their 30s. This has shocked the Thai Buddhist community of course, and I wonder how the accident could happen like that. It seems the female driver (who was only slightly injured) drove on the wrong side of the road, collided with another car, then her car with the monks in the back overturned and they were crushed to death (not wearing seat belts?).

We will dedicate some evening funeral chanting to them.

I feel sorry for the driver... I wonder what she is going through now :(
It's sad that they died that early could have done so much more good. But they died as monks, many of us won't be that fortunate.
