One nit a person might pick with this board is that there aren't enough threads about lumberjacks. So I'm starting one!
I bet the brilliant minds here can make up much cooler lyrics. But let's change the opening:
I'm a Dhamma hack, and I'm okay.
I sleep all night and I work all day.
I sit around. I watch my breath.
I try to just let go.
On Wednesdays I go shoppin'
and then I walk real slow.
Who has the next verse?
The lumberjack thread
The lumberjack thread
Rain soddens what is kept wrapped up,
But never soddens what is open;
Uncover, then, what is concealed,
Lest it be soddened by the rain.
But never soddens what is open;
Uncover, then, what is concealed,
Lest it be soddened by the rain.
Re: The lumberjack thread
I cut down greed,
I sit and walk,
I like to give dana,
I make peace with every moment
and like to read Suttas

Four types of letting go:
1) Giving; expecting nothing back in return
2) Throwing things away
3) Contentment; wanting to be here, not wanting to be anywhere else
4) "Teflon Mind"; having a mind which doesn't accumulate things
- Ajahn Brahm

Awesome!
Oh, he's a Dhamma hack and he's okay,
he sleeps all night and he works all day!
Who's next?

I think about
rebirth a lot
while reading Dhammawheel.
But then I just remember:
this "self" is nothing real.

Re: The lumberjack thread
Many of my relatives were lumberjacks (and lumberjack wives) in the the northern midwest of the U.S. A finer bunch of folks couldn't be found anywhere. They lived simply, within the limits of the natural world, and spent a lot of time being quiet in nature, had big hearts, and kept their mind simple. If it had ever occurred to one of my lumberjack uncles or aunts to write a haiku, it would go something like:
I care for the forest
I care for my family
I live in balance with all living beings.
...but of course, (even though they were very intelligent) none of them were abstract enough to write such narcissistic nonsense. They simply lived in harmony with the whole...meaning that they didn't see themselves as separate from the whole, but rather, integral to the whole.

Vision is Mind
Mind is Empty
Emptiness is Clear Light
Clear Light is Union
Union is Great Bliss

Very cool!
He's a Dhamma hack and he's okay,
he sleeps all night and he works all day!
I download talks.
I listen hard.
I like to drink coffee.
And when it's time to go to bed,
I might not be sleepy.

Blog, Suttas, Aj Chah, Facebook.
He who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that. His reasons may be good, and no one may have been able to refute them.
But if he is equally unable to refute the reasons on the opposite side, if he does not so much as know what they are, he has no ground for preferring either opinion …
...
He must be able to hear them from persons who actually believe them … he must know them in their most plausible and persuasive form.
John Stuart Mill

You have many contacts
Among the dhamma hacks
To get you facts
When someone attacks your imagination
But nobody has any respect
Anyway they already expect you
To just give a check
To local sangha organizations
