What is it about?
Complex dynamics (Julia sets 'n stuff).
I have a certain family of rational functions, parametrized by one complex parameter and I have to classify all the possible types of dynamics that can occur, what kinds of Fatou components, and whether the Julia set is connected and so on.
So then I have some fancy looking picture in the parameter space for example, similar like the Mandelbrot set for the family of quadratic polynomials, and many other fancy pictures of the Julia sets that my computer can make. But I have to prove all the stuff that my computer tells me and understand what it really means and why it is like that and connect it with the theory. And somehow I've lost interest in that long ago.
I'd rather go to the forest and become a tree.
