Hello from The Norwegian Forest Monastery Buddhist Society

Post by Skogskloster »

The Norwegian Forest Monastery Buddhist Society (Skogsloster Buddhistsamfunn) was founded in 2011 to bring together Theravada Buddhists and others interested in the Buddhist path. Our aim is to foster an active and vibrant local community with a focus on regular practice, as well as to support the establishment and operation of a forest monastery in Norway. Our group is affiliated specifically with the Thai forest tradition in general, and the teachers and practice in this tradition in particular.

We have weekly activities focused on group sitting meditation, and also invite teachers to conduct meditation retreats throughout the year. We are working to invite monks to reside here in Norway in the period prior to establishing a forest monastery and a permanent monk sangha. The Forest Monastery Buddhist Society is a member of the Norwegian National Buddhist Society.

We are affiliated with the Forest Monastery and Convent Forest Project Foundation in Norway. By establishing a traditional forest monastery here in Norway, we aim to have local access to experienced teaching resources. We also hope to set up a city center for teaching, meditation and other activities.

Would you like to join our community, or contribute to our project? Please contact us by email: [email protected] or come to one of our events to find out how you can participate.
