Postby cooran » Sat Jul 11, 2009 8:26 pm

The weather looms as England's only saviour after relentless Australia hammered its opponent into submission on a shortened day four of the first Ashes Test in Cardiff.

Hopefully the weather holds out tonight!

Metta,
Retro. :)

When the Dhamma for the cessation of existence is being preached to them, their minds do not leap towards it, do not get pleased with it, do not get settled in it, do not find confidence in it. That is how, monks, some lag behind … (It. p 43)”

Hello Retro,

The weather wasn't good ....

BUT

England face a fight to save the first Ashes Test after being dominated by Australia on day four in Cardiff.
Marcus North (125no) and Brad Haddin (121) both crafted superb centuries as the tourists posted 674-6 declared - a first-innings lead of 239 runs.

Hello pmwhewitt, all,

Here's some more .... England are causing a faint crease of worry between Ponting's brows ... :o

Gritty England denies Australia in thrillerExcerpt:
The wickets of Andrew Flintoff (26) and Stuart Broad (14) in the middle session had England sliding further towards a crushing defeat, but Collingwood had other ideas.
The all-rounder was like a prize fighter at the crease and it inspired Graeme Swann in a 62-run partnership.
Swann was struck repeated blows by the Australian quicks, in particular a fired-up Peter Siddle who hit him twice in the head and again in the body with bouncers.
However he held firm until Hilfenhaus trapped him straight in front with the new ball.
Collingwood was joined at the crease by Anderson and it appeared they were set to put England in front when there was another twist to a fascinating tale.
Siddle trundled in and Collingwood forced a delivery off the back foot high to Michael Hussey at gulley, who parried the ball above his head and then clung on at the second attempt.
A bewildered Collingwood could not believe it and probably trudged from the ground believing he had blown his side's hopes of hanging on.
But Anderson and Panesar proved inpenetrable over almost 40 minutes and Ponting and co were left to lament the one which got away.
The second Test starts at Lord's on Thursday.
