It's better to run barefoot, scientists say.

Not necessarily barefoot, but it may be that too much cushioning can actually cause injuries. Runners who wear cheap shoes statistically get injuries less often than those who wear expensive shoes. So, there are some fancy new shoes out that aim to provide better traction and protect your skin from abrasion, while having a minimal amount of cushioning between your foot and the ground.

It's interesting if you take a close look at the heel strike of a traditional running shoe vs. a pair of these new minimalist footwear:


The new footwear, although it looks weird, does appear like it is softer on the ankle. If it became a new fad, like crocs, I'd buy a pair.

What footwear do Buddhist monks typically wear? Jesus sandals?

And what shoes do you wear?

Definitely the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever worn was a pair of big, black, steel-toed army boots I used to wear. The cushioning wasn't very soft and they were heavy, so it wasn't a very good work boot.

Hi, Individual,

In the summer, I wear sandals and flip flops.

My flip flops are so comfy, I can walk in them all day.

At home often barefoot.

In the winter I wear boots.

No high heels, if I can help it.

They hurt my feet.

Have you seen those Ethiopian barefoot runners in Olympic games?

Back when I was in the sprint-team of my school, I always wore cheap simple shoes.

Never any injuries...

A friend of mine, Tim Van Orden, uses the five finger shoe, which to me looks almost like running barefoot.

But I guess it works, the last time I saw him race, he won and set a new record for going up the US Bank Tower in Los Angeles (1500 steps stairclimbing).

About the raw foods movement, although it's true that some nutrients might be destroyed or altered in the cooking process (the main argument for it), many nutrients also cannot be as easily absorbed unless they are broken down a bit first, through the process of cooking. Similarly, thoroughly chewing food before swallowing makes it more nutritious, because it's more thoroughly broken down before it passes through the digenstive system. So, cooking foods often adds to their nutritional value, although it might depend on the specific food.

I wear shoes at work, but sandles, or I think they are climbing trainers? when it is colder. but prefer my sandles.
